Conn 100HB

Hi guys, can you tell me something more about the trombone in question.

The person selling it says it's a 100HB .547 bore, but I haven't found much information on the web.

What do you think about it?

Sure looks like an 88HO to me. The only 100H I've heard of is 0.500 " (12.7 mm) bore.

Interesting bell engraving, maybe done for a specific dealer... still looks like an 88HO though.

With a quick Google search, I also found a modern Conn 52h with the same engraving. So whatever model this instrument is must be an open wrap version of the Conn 52h? Which just so happens to look identical to a 88HO. This is all me making guesses though I have no idea why a dealer would request a 88HO be rebranded... and the one Quinn is selling for new in the box is far too cheap to be a 88HO.

Are the intermediate Conn instruments still made in Ohio or are they now made overseas? Intermediate Bach's are overseas right?

With the exception of the counterweight, and maaaaaaybe a longer valve section, my 88HO looks almost identical.

I would say that it's definitely a "Step Up" horn. They often look just like the pro horns, but use lesser components. Quinn is usually spot on with his listings, so I would say he's right with this as well.

It also could be a special run of the 88HO. So I'd ask if he knows what specifically separates it from the 88HO.

If you buy from him, make sure to ask for pictures of any flaws. He “forgot to mention” multiple small dents and spots of acid bleed.

I would bet the model is as described. I bought a prototype Bach (TB450) several years ago that was intended for later release in Europe, and the horn was a pared-down Bach 42 in almost every way. Some of the materials felt lighter/less dense and I’m guessing there were cost-savings on the material side as well as in manufacture. It was an okay horn, but I would put it on par with the old Blessing B88 level of production. This Conn could be something similar, like the 52H and 66H’s that appear to have been modeled after the Benge 165F. This looks like an 88H with a lot of yellow brass, probably thin metal. Old/Classic design for easier R&D and lighter/cheaper materials for cost savings.

Looks like a budget 88H. I wouldn’t pay 1500 if I could get a real 88H like new for that. I presume that TBRG stands for TromBone ReGency?

Is the "Conn Regency TBRG-100 F" the same as the "Conn 100HB?"

Is this model sold through other retail channels under either moniker? :idk:

Are detailed specs published anywhere?

Hard to know when and where this horn came from. Some of the intermediate lines come and go so fast in favor of the next, and can be regional or country specific. Maybe a dealer would have a pricing guide with details. I couldn’t find anything other than the listing for this trombone being in Italian, and Quinn’s with similar naming convention. When I bought the Back TB450 it wasn’t even supposed to be sold in the US and was so new there wasn’t any info other than one German dealer website.

This is interesting because I just ran across an eBay item listed as "Conn Regency Trombone with F Trigger Attachment For Intermediate Student". It's being sold by 49zjk-94 (in case you want to look for it - web address is too long to share). It has larger bore, gorgeous rose brass bell and that it was used only two years and well cared for. Tells me it's a newer model, but I've never heard of the Regency line.

Doing some light research, I also found a used Regency by Leblanc. Yes, shipping to the west coast is pricey!!

I just send a trombone to Holland , for less than the price to send the same horn to CA!!

It is still actually very reasonable though, if you truly consider the logistics involved...
