He's definitely playing one in the video. Interesting

I saw the video and was thinking the same thing! His website still says he’s an Edwards artist though.

Eastman can offer a better deal than the Getzens?

Looks like he is at Michael Davis' place recording the Hip-bone U lesson. Could it be that he borrowed a Shires that Michael Davis had there?

Just checked the Edwards site - his bio is gone from the Artists page. It was there a few days ago when this thread started. Looked like a screw bell that he was playing in that clip.

Didn’t look like a MD or MD+ model at all.

Okay?? I’m just thinking if he had a spare horn laying around for people to play it’d be one of his own signature models, making it far more likely Gilkes is playing his own Shires horn.

He played a Shires before he went to Edwards. I think he played a Besson 940 before that.

When I was at school with Marshall, he played a Shires (in the mid 2000's), but he switched to Edwards. I know he always liked the Shires (and I actually preferred how he sounded on it, personally), so who knows what's happening now! Maybe he just kept his old horn, maybe he's returning to Shires, or maybe he just couldn't travel easily with his horn under pandemic conditions. Interesting, nevertheless.

Marshall was a Shires artist for several years before switching to Edwards.

Marshall just announced it on social media, as well.

After listening to Keith at Schmitt Music and then Marshall in his Shires video I’m sold! That horn definitely has an incredible sound quality all its own. Ordered mine today!

Whew!....that's a killer demo video! I wonder if some of the notes come with the purchase of the horn?

Make a New Trombone Day-post when you get it! (On guitar foras it's almost mandatory to post a New Guitar Day-ditto - with pics - when you brag about a new acqusition)

I'd love to see peoples new horns, and I'm in the process of custom ordering a Shires myself. The funny thing is that Gilkes' horn has very similar specs as I'm considering for my horn.

Well let's see if anyone who ordered one gets the sound that he does, or plays remotely close to his level. :)

Got mine last week from Milano in Mesa, AZ. They still have one left. They also have the MG Custom piece in stock. Mine should arrive today. I checked my new horn out thoroughly. It came with some of, but not all the notes MG used in the demo! I complained to Alexa, and she laughed at me. I just don’t get no respect! However, ALL of the notes are twice as thick compared to all other small bore tenors I’ve ever tried. With 68 years of sliding through life that has been just about everything made. Love it!

I’m ready to sell my model 34!
