Profile information is dull!

I think the profile information is dull in this forum. It could be easy to change. The problem is you have no background information about posters. The attribute "stable" is not very interesting. Change that to "profile information you want to share", "Background information" or something shorter like "Your background" or "Information about you" or "CV". If it is possible to have both you could keep "stable" but personally I think it is not very interesting what horns people play.

Maybe a minor overhaul is a good idea. Other opinions?

Well, we do have the means - they are just text fields. One can only see them after 2 posts to keep bot traffic away from the information. On the other hand, might it be sufficient to include links for other social media if you would thus like to share your information with the world? Can include the usual culprits: Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Instagram etc. Linkedin probably has the most flexibility with that sort of thing and they're way less annoying now that MS took them over. Probably the only thing MS took over that they improved lol

I thought the signature block is the place for interesting bits of curriculum vitae. If you want to post your shingle as an expert that might be the place to do it.

I used to like the titles we had on TTF; it's where I touted myself as a "mad chemist".

Hah, I forgot about those titles. I liked that as well.

I find ‘the stable’ interesting. Perhaps add a text field field’musicalcareer highlight so far’. Relevant, and can be updated as people progress. Implies something about musical interests too. Just a thought ....

Mine is dull because I enjoy being boring.

However, nothing prevents me from being, ah...., creative with an alternative history.

Like that time flying back on the Concorde when the pilot fell asleep and I ...........

Some are interested, some are not.

If you lie in your profile, sooner or later it will catch up to you.

I am (unfortunately) fairly well known and don't want/need to brag in my profile.

I searched this topic out, as I find the lack of background info a little frustrating. Who am I dealing with?

I’d like a bit more info than simply what horns people own. Location, age, pro/amateur/beginner, student?

Maybe encouraged but not mandatory? (Impossible to police, obviously)

Yes, certainly. We'll implement that - it sort of fell through the cracks. Obviously the next few days isn't ideal, but thanks for putting it back on the radar.

I don't recall when we made the change, but do let me know if you don't see some of these fields. I checked it out as a 'normal' user and the following fields exist for me:

Location

Website

Interests

Stable

Facebook

Twitter

Skype

YouTube

About Me

Do let me know if you don't see them.

I'm reluctant to put a spot in there about relative skill or status. About Me is the newest addition and provides an area where you can indicate your musical background & ensembles which will provide a more fine-grained opportunity to indicate your skill level if you choose to do so. Its currently restricted to 1000 characters but I can expand that if people find that too limiting.

It's all there now. Just that few of us knew about the change. :good:

Probably would have helped if we (I) had announced it. :shuffle: 😉

Is there a particular format for the "twitter"/"Youtube"/etc. section? Pasting in the website link to my 'official' Youtube channel returns an invalid characters error.

You need to only include the portion that links to you; so if you are www.twitter.com/abcd you'd just put abcd.

Hi guys,

I wanted to update my profile this morning, but the Profile link in the 'user' menu only allows me to view my profile with no obvious way to edit it, and I cannot see any option in the User Control Panel to view or edit it.

Any help, please?

Many thanks

Hi guys

Either I was being dense this morning, in which case sorry, or something had changed - in which case thank you very much!

I think you needed two approved posts to be able to edit your profile. The plea this morning got you over the hurdle.
