Based on the Jules Verne science fiction book?

And if you pronounce the composer in Norwegian does it sound like the French novelist's name?

You've got me Leif.....not seen this in 36 years of playing operas. Interested to hear more.

I found a Wikipedia entry for the composer:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gisle_Kverndokk

Piece was composed in 2007 (Jorden rundt på 80 dager). Apparently he's a Norwegian composer born 1967.

Yes I read more about him. He has done a lot but I have to admit I didn't know anything about him.

Chris, I just got the sheet music in my mail. It's 62 pages and the name is "posaune gesamt" I can send you some pages. To be honest I don't think I can play it. It looks a bit scary for me. Register is ok but so much to play. I send you some picture of the sheet music tomorrow.

I never saw the term "posaune gesamt" before. Seems to be a trombone with F-attachment though not necessarily bass (that would be "bassposaune", but using the special letter for "ss").

I'll be interested in Chris's comments.

Posaune gesamt?

That's a trombone that's been totaled.

A Yahoo search of "posaune gesamt" showed a number of pictures of trombones with F-attachments (and a number of German sites I couldn't read). I think it's not "totaled trombone" but "total trombone", i.e. one that is all decked out.

It must be short for Gesamtverlust. Total loss! Some mishap on die Autobahn is involved.

Here's a Horn gesamt...

<ATTACHMENT filename="HornGesamt.jpg" index="0">[attachment=0]HornGesamt.jpg</ATTACHMENT>

That pretty much looks like what music in modern operas sounds like.

Trombone totaled would be a sketchy translation at best.

I think it rather means "complete version of the trombone part". I have never seen a part marked like that. But I'd expect there are other trombone parts wich don't cover the complete opera.

Maybe not necessarily a different voice but maybe parts wich contain only a certain section of the opera if you don't play the entire work.

Ok here is two pages of 62. Not so much rests. Its really a lot and it looks fun. But difficult so Im not sure I can play it. I only play orchestra once in a year. The problem is I cant find any recording of it so I dont have a clue what the music is either. One thing is sure, Well, be ready. Im going to ask for help...Thanks god its not before October. If the Corona allows it.

Oh... I thought one "Frau ohne Schatten" was more than enough in the trombone repertoire!

Hey Leif, it looks okay...standard cliches ...even rests ! Ive been hit with far worse...I'm sure you can do it. It may look daunting but you only do one bar at a time <EMOJI seq="1f60f" tseq="1f60f">😏</EMOJI>

Thanks! I might need that. Have to do as Chris say I think. There is lot of time so take it step for step. Maybe it isn’t as difficult as it look at first sight.
