18 months ago my wife and I went through about 6 months of stress trying to figure out what the best next horn was for our 12 year old kid. Got lots of feedback on what horn would work (on TTF)......but the best advice was "Have him try out a bunch." In the end he got a 1969 Conn 88H, because when he took it for a 'test drive' his face lit up.....and he continues to love that horn, even though it isn't allowed out of the house except for Solo & Ensemble Festival. He just turned 13 last month and loves playing. Has a smooth, mellow character that he can't reproduce on any other horn he has played. I know that 'smooth' and '13-year old kid' don't normally go together, but in this case it does.
Thank you for all of the help.

Thats so cool! Nothing better than a kid loving music and his parents supporting him!
And a 69 Conn 88h should be a really fine horn that could last him a lifetime if he takes good care of it.
