Plan A right now is to purchase a Remington Small Shank so my son can have the same cup on his school horn as he does on Conn. If anyone has one, or knows of one, please e-mail me.

Thank you,

Unfortunately, I believe the Conn "Remington" small shank mouthpieces do NOT have the same cup as the Remington large (88H) shank pieces. Perhaps I'm wrong and someone who has played one will correct me (they're pretty rare), but I think the cup is much smaller than either the large-shank Remington or the 6½AL.

Is your son happy with the Remington large shank piece that came with his 88H? Many of us (including me) have moved beyond it to what we consider are better mouthpieces; others are fine with it.

I have both - they are the same (except for the slight differences that can happen between any 2 mouthpieces of the same size - minor differences in tooling, etc.).

While I don't play the Remington, or a Conn on a regular basis these days, I happen to think that it is a good mouthpiece - of course not for everyone. Check eBay - they show up periodically. Good luck.

I HAVE played the small shank Conn Remington and the regular 88H Remington. They feel the same. When I was a kid my teacher put me on a small shank Remington with my Olds Ambassador with F.

I don't play Remingtons any more because I like larger rims. The Remington is a 1.01" and I prefer 1.02" (Bach 4) size.

That said, I used a small shank Remington on a 40H Ballroom wiht great success.

Oops - my bad. :idk: I was not aware that the small and large-shank Remington mouthpieces had the same cup size. So Bjr's plan makes sense after all. As a youngster, I would have had a bit of a hard time with a large cup mouthpiece on a medium-bore trombone - however the Remington and I never did get along very well. But the young trombonist loves his! Hope you find a small-shank Remington soon. :good:

The small shank Remington was standard issue with the Connstellation horns of the mid 205h Century.

Son is thrilled with the Remington large shank. Has been from the first moment he played it. He is only 13 so his mouth probably is not as big a most of the people on this forum. We have seen him play a lot of set-ups over the last couple of years. 2 things are not in doubt - 88H is a perfect match for him. The Remington is a great match for him. He has played the horn with several mouthpieces.......I am sure all this will change as he grows up.

Don't sell the Remington short. Remington used to have all his students play it (including my teacher), as he did himself. It is/was a good mouthpiece for its day. I would doubt Remington would have used it if it didn't work for him or for a lot of his stdents. Conn replaced the Remington with the Marcellus as the standard large bore mouthpiece, but has since moved on to copies of Bach sizes.

There’s a Small shank Remington Conn Connstellation mouthpiece on eBay. The seller replated it - looks new! $79ish. Connstellation was their “Cadillac” version mp. <LINK_TEXT text="https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 3347992591">https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F123347992591</LINK_TEXT>

I was going to also point out that Remington on eBay, but I don't think it was replated. Mine is just like that - the Conn Constellation mouthpieces came like that, with gold plate on the upper part of the mouthpiece, and silver on the shanks. I also have a large shank Remington (Constellation) that is the same. That old Conn gold plating was very good quality too.

I contacted the eBay seller and he said he did replate the mp.

If it's an old 88H, then the Remington is one of the few mouthpieces that will actually fit properly in the leadpipe taper -- that might have a lot to do with it. It's a good thing he likes it haha!

....thank you all for the references to the eBay listing. Question: Would you purchase from an e-bay seller who does not accept returns and who didn’t respond to your inquiries?

Seller does have 100% positive feedback. Just wondering if anyone has experience purchasing from frisco1227 on e-bay, and if his stuff generally tends to be of higher quality?

I've bought a few mouthpieces from Frisco1227. His mouthpieces are as explained in the ad. Don't offer him asking price. Send him an offer 35 percent below asking.
