I was told today that the King 607 is essentially the 3B .508 with F attachment and the King 608 the 3B+ .525 with f attachment. What's the story?
Thank you.

The 607F and 608F both have a .525" bore (like the 3B+F). The difference is the 607F has a yellow brass bell while the 608F has a rose brass bell. Both have a yellow slide unlike the 3B's nickel. Other than not having the signature curved brace, I'm not sure how else they differ from a 3B+F.

I've seen some 3bf's with yellow slides. Or really the orange "king" lacquer color slide. Does that mean that the horn was paired with a 607/608 slide or did 3bf's come with non-nickel slides?

Those 3B slides are just lacquered to look like the rest of the horn- they're still nickel. I have one!

So other than the lacquer and curved brace (and price) what makes a 3b(+)/f att different from a 607(8)/f att?

As finetales said, a yellow brass slide.

In our house we have a 607F (thick orange lacquer) and a 3B+F (silver plate). The 3B+F is definitely easier to colour, more responsive, and has has a richer sound. The 3B+F is supposed to be for me and the 607F for my (16 y.o.) son, but somehow he got his hands on the 3B+F and won't give it back.

Old thread I know but... the question is will a 607 slide fit on to a 3b bell thus giving you in essence a 3B+ horn? If the answer to that is 'no' is that because the tennon wont fit? Or is it because the 3B+ has a larger bore in the bell?
No proposed work here, just curious... Doug

Correct. Tenons are different size. Parts aren’t expensive though.
