An early Elkhart Bach 36B, serial #8XXX, "corporation" stamped on the bell. Yellow bell, regular weight slide, completely stock.
The Good: It plays great - open and easy-blowing with a darker, richer sound than others I have played, including my other Lt 36B.
In the few years that I have owned it, I have kept it clean and well-maintained. The valve works very smoothly and is fairly quiet when lubed and the screws are tightened down. The compression is good - no leaks. The tuning slides are free and are neither too tight or too loose.
It has just been cleaned, the valve has fresh synthetic oil and the tuning slide has fresh lube.
The Bad - it was in rough shape when I got it, and shows signs of former repairs. The finish is rough. Lacquer is scratched, discolored, and spotty. The slide has no lacquer. However, I don't see evidence of any serious past damage, there are no patches, and currently there is nothing worse than a few light dings.
The slide is ok - it will drop easily on its own and is very playable, but is not great. Slightly noisy, slightly rough, and it sticks a little around 6th-7th positions. (I admit I'm picky about slides, and my lightweight 36 slide is flawless.)
There is one small area of wear on the inner - a thin line about 1/2" long that won't show in pics.
$950. plus shipping from 08620. (Would love to sell locally!)
I still have an Olds Recording and Conn 50H Director for sale, too. Thinning out the herd.
