What's with this grip?
I tried it and...it's not bad actually. Bell section sits on your forearm. A little discombobulating to hear the sound from the bell that far down but not terrible.

Explain please!
I think it's great. More weird grips needed.

Wow, Kyle was my counselor at Cazadero Music Camp when I was in 6th grade and he was at Juilliard. We LOVED Kyle, to his surprise. Happy to see him doing so well and holding the trombone like that.

also according to this it's part of a 1920s 8h
So apropos of that discussion that's one more major orchestra player with a vintage horn, or part of one anyway.

I won't say too much, but Kyle isn't exactly the paragon I would follow.

I don't know Kyle from Adam...but with the extra counterweight in the first screenshot I would have guessed it was more down to ergonomics/injury...just a WAG, though...

I've seen dudes holding trombones like that in drawings from the 1500s. Now I know that the artist actually could draw what he was seeing.
This is a time traveler.

I often did hold my bass sackbuts like that, especially when crocked in D. I did play sackbuts pretty much in several years.

Thinking on it a bit - yeah, sure it makes sense that would work. Seems like the slide receivers on that horn are unusually short. The first one, can't tell on the lower pic.
