As some of you know, I have been unable to make anything for the past month or so due to problems with my machine. A lot of people are waiting for orders, and there's nothing I can do about it until it's fixed. After extensive diagnosis and trying different things, I need almost $4,000 (that I don't have) to get what it needs.

If anybody is willing to prepay for future orders, I'm hoping I can raise it very quickly so I can get back to work. Or if you've been putting off having an online lesson, now's the time.

Thanks

Doug,

So sorry to learn about your problem. I wondered what had happened to my order. I can prepay you for an additional component or two to help out and speed up the process. I hope others can pitch in!

I went ahead and posted on the Facebook marketplace to try and help get some orders in to pay for the repairs for your machine. Hope you don’t mind.

An update is in order.

It's coming up on two months now that my lathe has been down and I have exhausted all the possibilities for reasonably repairing the system I have. The electronics are just too old and troublesome, and the parts I got this past month have not fixed it. So now I am getting a major upgrade, all new stuff that will give me reliability. I expect to be installing it in about two weeks.

Please hold off on questions about when anything will be ready - I can't possibly guess right now. Thanks.

Finally, after more than 4 months of no production, my machine is running. I still have a little more maintenance to do and cleaning up a few details, but this is a good Christmas present.

I should be back in production very soon but please don't ask about delivery times yet...

Most guys have been just emailing Doug. I think a lot of us have orders in already. He’s got a lot on his plate, but it never hurts to get in line.

I am finally starting back in production - everything is working well now. With almost 5 months of no production I have a lot to catch up on, so don't expect everything to be available immediately.

I'm looking forward to resuming business, and as usual I'm available for online Skype or Zoom lessons.

Thanks

Great to hear. I've been thinking of ordering a backup for my current setup because I like it so much, but I'll wait a bit so as to help "flatten the curve" (in the parlance of our times).

definitely gonna put my order in, just wanted to know the contour of the Sym rims….

Same contour as all my other tenor rims.

But potentially 3 widths - standard, narrow, and medium-narrow.

I will try to stock all three widths in every size.

I have few SYM rims still in stock. but not many.

Working to catch up.....

I am back in full production now and hoping to largely catch up by the end of March and beginning of April.

I've been holding my prices the same for several years now, but at some point soon I will need to raise prices. All of my costs have significantly increased lately.

Higher price would be great, especially if we could get shanks that had inner profiles similar to what Greg Black and Griego are using on their pieces, especially the throats. ~.290" throats are a thing and they can work really well.

I'm convinced you know everything there is to know about small bore shanks. The one wish I had is a drop in shank for your large bore pieces that has those attributes.

I know this is easy to say but very difficult to design.

Great news about the end of March. You know we're all going nuts biting our fingernails in anticipation over here. :-D
