Hello guys, here is up for sale true unique horn: My Thein Basstrombone with Bach 50 Mt. Vernon bell. Reducing my collection to mainly Conn-like basstrombones so the last Bach-style horn has to go. It‘s a terrific basstrombone! Sounds like a big fat Bach with a huge dark sound and a sweet round timber, much more colorful than today’s Bach’s. Perfect for orchestras and large wind bands or any solo playing.
This horn is basically a Thein bases frankenhorn with a Ben Van Dijk double Hagmann valve section and main tuning slide in red brass. The whole valve section is dentfree with a new lacquer made around a half of a year ago. The valves work perfect, are open especially in the double valve range. Curiously the second valve has no tuning slide which I guess was made like this years ago. I didn‘t needed it, it‘s in tune, so I don‘t even miss it. All the tuning slides move freely. I use heavy valve caps which work best for me, but I can send the normal weight caps too.
The handslide is a 14.40mm (.566) cylindrical bore made of yellow brass with yellow brass crook. I would say it’s Bach-style. I let modify the hand grip to a more comfortable curved one. The handslide is used and I would say it‘s a 9.5 of 10. Runs fast and nearly perfect.
As mentioned above the bell is a real deal. Bach 50 Mt.Vernon 9.5“ red brass made around 1965 with a flat rim. I bought it 3 years ago from a collector in Italy and mounted it first on a pair of Bach Infinity valves which was nothing but awful. It didn‘t sound good, was hard to play, the valves were bad too, slow and nothing for me. So I mounted it myself on a pair of Bach Hagmann valves. Was much better, but far from good. So I took the decision to send it to the Thein factory and let it adapt to Thein basstrombones. This was the perfect decision! Mounting it the first time on may Thein hardware it worked straight away! The sound, the easiness of playing throughout the whole range and the fast response makes this bell a true gem I will miss for sure.
I sell this horn only complete. Parting out something makes no sense. The bell is cut to fit any Thein basstrombone, so mounting on an other horn will not work. I tried several different Thein setups and figured out the best I could find. If you‘re looking for a complete perfect basstrombone, here it is!
I’m looking for 7,200 - 7,800 € or best offer depending on where I should send it. If you have something rare to trade in let‘s see if we can make a deal.
Nice. Those Hagmanns make some interesting wrap options.
This wrap makes only Thein as much as I know. It plays like a dream and the valve register of this valves is the most open I‘ve ever played. Really cool if you have to play much low stuff<EMOJI seq="1f60e" tseq="1f60e">😎</EMOJI>
