I need to buy a second bass bone. I'm currently playing a Conn 72H. It does everything I need it to do. But I've always been curious about the 71H.
What would I be gaining or loosing with a 71H instead of a another 72H?

You'd be gaining spare parts just in case something happens?
In my experience there isn't much different between the 2 models other than the F wrap and depending on when the horns are made the bell weight. The pre "Artist Symphony" 71H will be more like your 72H. "Artist Symphony" Conns are post Elkhart, are a bit heavier and are hit and miss on their construction consistency.

If you're looking for a second bass bone to be a backup or otherwise do the same thing your primary bass does, either will work but I would (and did!) get another 72H personally. I also owned a 71H and it didn't last long.
If you want it to do something different (be darker or broader, for example), the 71H won't do anything that your 72H can't.
