Collection of 9 big band arrangements.
SOLD $250 including shipping within the US (like UPS or FedEx Ground), OBO
I can take Cash or PayPal
I bought these charts and some other gear from Mikki, Rich Matteson’s widow, one or two years after he passed, and have played almost all of these with bands. I selected charts based on some great well known tunes, one he wrote for Mikki, and a couple for young bands, including one by his friend and colleague guitarist Jack Petersen. Rich played tuba, piano, trombone, valve bone, and is best known as a jazz euphoniumist, and taught at the University of North Texas and University of North Florida.
The arrangements are for full big band (17-19), and most for featured soloist. The parts are in very good to excellent condition for their age, stored flat, I think almost free of marks, full rhythm section. (When working with bands, I used copies I had made, and took back at the end of performance, and long ago destroyed). They are printed manuscript on 9” by 13” heavier paper (or light card stock), except for maybe one guitar part and a solo part that Mikki only had an 8.5 x 11 copy.
Some come with Rich’s 3-line conductor score, others have a full score (20 staves). Some even arranged with 5 trumpets or 5 ‘bones. Rich’s scores might sketch his solo lines, because he knew his part! like his intro to Don’t Get Around Much Anymore.
Big Band with Conductor’s short score
Don’t Around Much Any More
Mikki’s Blues
Doxy
Be Bop Minor
Big Band with Full Score
In a Mellow Tone
There is No Greater Love
Bye Bye Blues
Charts for Young Big Bands
Don’t Rush the Count by Matteson
This is a big band arrangement. Rich created some jazz rhythm and articulation training exercises, with some instructional material. And in the end, the band plays the full big band arrangement that incorporates those rhythms.
Conductor’s score
Rich’s typed instructions
Rhythm exercises
Written out jazz solos for different keys and clefs.
And
Strawberry Jam, a big band chart by Jack Petersen
Yeah, I’d like to sell the collection rather than part out. And I’m not a business, so if it took time to arrange payment from a school or institution, I’m willing to take a little time to work with the right buyer to make that happen.
Most of all, I hope these get performed!
PM me, if you’re interested, and I can take more pics to show the condition.

I should add, Matteson was co-leader and arranger of the Matteson-Phillips Tuba Jazz Consort,
but really, you gotta hear him on tuba on a couple of albums with the Dukes of Dixieland with Louis Armstrong.
