The B454 is the modular bass trombone, where you can change out certain components to fit your needs and playing style. They usually have axial flow valves, but recently (in the last few years or so) a rotary valve option was added for those that prefer that feel.
The B502 is a fixed instrument with the harmonic bridge and rotary valves only. You can add pillars to the bridge to adjust the feedback and response to match the room you're playing in.
I'll let others chime in with more specific differences between the models.

Anyone have any opinions on the B454-V-E. I know the reason for the design, but has anyone compared it to the B454-E. Impressions?
