This is an instrument that I've never played. Would I get one? Probably not. But this is an interesting overview.

After I saw that one, I went on a search for a trombonium. Lots of variations out there, but couldn't find one for the right price and nice condition. I don't think I'd want one now, too much money spent lately on other instruments.

I think a bass trombonium would be fun and useful...

The Conn 90G I played was awful. Bb partials were nearly a 9th apart.

I've got a JJ Johnson / Kai Winding album that features them on tromboniums :) I suspect they only bothered playing them because King really wanted them to be featured. It's fun, but in the end, just a footnote in instrument design history.

Holy crap! :o

My 1st private teacher gave me this album when I was 13.

I must have never read or understood what I was reading to realize they were playing tromboniums. :)

I think the tromboniums were only featured on a few of the songs. It's a great album though :)

I could be totally misremembering, but I feel like Noah Gladstone did some experiment with them a while back. I could be totally wrong on that though (I know he also did a large bore valve trombone).

Trombonium: for when you want a valve trombone that's not shaped like a trombone but is more inconvenient than a flugabone.

From Jim Self's collection, a "Jimbasso" made from a Yamaha 621 F tuba valve set.
