3b vs New Proportion

I've played 3bs before, but I've never played the New Proportion. These are supposed to be 508 w/ 7.5" bell, 1900s-30s, friction fit slide. Generally they sell pretty cheap. How do they compare to the 3b? Anyone own/play one?

I played one once. As a friction fit I'd really not recommend it in place of the typical 3B (Jazz Band, with lots of mute changes).
The New Proportion I played was more 2B sized (actually Liberty sized - single bore). Soundwise it had a nice high range. But the friction fit could be a deal breaker for me.

I have handled two New Proportions. They sounded great, but the slides are from a different era - soldered stockings - that cannot compete with modern slides. The playing experience was not good. A 3B could play circles around those two horns...

Thanks, guys, I guess that's why they're so cheap.
