Hmmm now I have to check my serial number <EMOJI seq="1f612" tseq="1f612">😒</EMOJI>

Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me on Conn serial numbers can chime in. Serial number H41xxx.

That is pre-1961 engraving. That horn is much older than 1966.

Maybe part of the horn was replaced at some point with newer part?

Post-1955 Conn was making the 70H by special request. Seeing that this instrument is silver plated, it may have been a special order for a military band or brass band.

The engraving is 50's vintage.

It doesn't look like it. The outer slide - with the serial number - matches exactly the lacquer of the bell section.

EDIT: Thinking about that twice, it looks a little like the slide grip may have been replaced! That may explain the different look wich I attributed to not polishing that area.

Also: when getting it, I was surprised to see a slide lock going with that engraving. So this may explain that!

Surely that's pre-war engraving?

I've seen this Conn "half moon" engraving on horns as late as 1955.

Yep! Similar to the engraving on my 1955 4H that is currently listed here.
