This may be the prettiest 45 year-old trombone you’ll find. As most people on this forum likely know, the Olds Symphony (also known as the “Opera”) O-25 was one of Olds most highly regarded professional instruments. This piece, in particular, is a show-stopper.

There’s virtually no tarnish anywhere on the horn (except for a tiny amount on the slide hand grip - see photo). The finish is nearly pristine. You may be able to find a few tiny scuffs, but you really have to look. The bell is rose-colored and there are no dents. The photos tell the story.

The F-trigger functions smoothly and the horn easily steps down to the lower register.

The standard bore is 0.554" and the F attachment is 0.565".

The rose bell is 8.5" in diameter and handslide action is silky smooth and quick.

Even the case looks impressive (inside and out) for its age.

Sonically, this horn has retained all the power, projection and bloom this model was renowned for. It's easy to elicit rich, sonorous tones from this horn. Musically, this instrument soars.

Also comes with 2 mutes, 3 mouthpieces (Olds 15, Gold-Plated Denis Wick, and Bach 3G), and a brass receiver for a trumpet mouthpiece.

This instrument was just listed on eBay, Reverb, Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace for $1,750 + $50 shipping.

For members of TromboneChat - the special price is $1,350 + $50 shipping.

Ben,

Beautiful! Even prettier than my 1974 O-25. She needs to be played, and deserves a loving home.

By the way, the "brass receiver" may be an adapter to use a small-shank trombone mouthpiece in this large-bore trombone - they were apparently common, back in the day.

Good luck!

Ahhh...so that's what that little brass tube was. None of the 3 trombone mouthpieces would fit, but my trumpet mouthpiece fit perfectly, and let me hit soprano notes. Kinda fun.
