It's come around to that time again to thin the herd a little to put towards some work I'd like doing on another horn. Of my four small bore tenor trombones, these two have seen the least usage in the past 6 Months so as much as they're fantastic instruments with different characters to my other horns, I've been getting more use out of my 3B/F and Minick 0.500" so am putting the 6H and Stratodyne up for sale.

Elkhart Conn 6H - 1200€ + shipping - open to offers

This has a 78xxxx serial which puts is around 1959/60 and for a 60+ year old instrument it is really in excellent condition, mechanically and cosmetically. The slide is in great shape with no signs of corrosion to the stockings or significant dents. The bell is in particularly good condition, excellent even apart from a couple of mute dings and minor scratches. The one part of the instrument which shows some more signs of use is the tuning slide. It moves freely but has a few shallow dents and some previously repaired ones also. I don't believe it affects the playability at all but someone may wish to have a tech smoothen everything out on the tuning slide if they're fussy about that kind of thing. There's some lacquer wear on the contact points in general but actually surprisingly little for the age. It comes with a grey fabric covered Conn case, probably original. One of the latches is a bit slow and generally the case is a little musty, not too bad but you can tell it was kept in storage for a while. It plays a lot like the Minick 0.500", so much so that I couldn't justify keeping both :good:

Holton Stratodyne 67 - 550€ + shipping - open to offers

I believe this is from the 50s, it's got a 7.5" and sub-0.500" slide, most probably 0.485" but I don't have the tools to verify this. As far as I can tell, the bell is gold or red brass (hard to tell with the lacquer), the outer slide is nickel silver and the crook looks to be yellow brass. There are some minor signs of chrome wear at the stockings but the slide action is still very good. There's a fair bit of what looks like acid bleed on the bell and some other signs of corrosion which I believe are very unlikely to be red rot due to the non-yellow brass but cannot say for certain. In general the lacquer has seen better days. Nonetheless, the beautiful art-deco engraving is still clearly visible. The braces have a cool hexagonal fitting for a slightly industrial look. From a couple of feet away, the horn looks great with it's tri-colour components and sounds awesome.

(Cliche mode on) If you haven't played one of these before, be prepared to be pleasantly surprised how much sound comes out of it. I'd describe it as soulful and powerful when pushed, dark and complex at lower dynamics. (Cliche mode off)

Will ship in a blessing soft case in good condition, apart from one missing buckle on one of the very much unnecessary additional straps for which I can see no purpose.

Location: Germany

I'd be wiling to ship internationally by request.

When I gave it a bit of a polish, I noticed something that I would to declare, it has some damage to the bell rim. There’s a thin straight dent on the player side of the rim, which does not go all around to the audience side and luckily does not seem to cause and buzzing or ringing, probably why I hadn’t noticed it before! It looks more like a thin linear dent than a crack. I’ve had a cracked bell before and in my opinion this bell is not one. It doesn’t appear to cause any problems with playability, this is still a monster of a small bore horn. I tried my best to capture it with a photo.

Anyway, taking the newly discovered damage into account, I’m dropping the price to 550€ plus shipping.

Price drop to 525€ or best offer on the Holton, a lot of small bore horn for the money. I could throw in a Mt Vernon 12C as well for 575€ which is a great combination with that horn (for the right chops).

Make me an offer, I’m looking to shift this to pay for some work on my large bore horn.

I would be interested in trades involving a gold brass 42 bell flare, straight 42G bell section, yellow brass 42 slide or other compatible parts.

Further price drop on the Holton to 485€.
