For sale is a 1966 TIS Conn 35H alto trombone in near perfect condition.
There are a couple of minor dots, pictured. As I recall, when it was sold to me, it was represented as “Stock, no damage. Has been sitting in the storage room of a German orchestra.” At first glance, all appearances seemed to bear that out. Case was barely used and contained shop card, info and case key(!), all pictured.
When I took it into different light, I noticed buff marks on the bell and the engraving is very light, leading me to believe that it has been buffed and re-lacquered, although I don't know for sure. My guess is that the work was done in Germany, due to its stated geographic history. The lacquer job is very good and it is in great condition and instrument has no dents or dings. The slide has gold brass outer tubes and the instrument does seem to be all stock, when comparing it to my slightly older 35H. Action is smooth. All TIS slides are a bit heavier and this one would benefit from a tech cleaning.
I am pricing it low because of the suspected work described above. I didn’t want to hassle with returning it to Europe or negotiating with the seller. In order to pass it along, I need to fully disclose my suspicions.
These are terrific altos from a bygone era and this one plays wonderfully. They don’t come up for sale very often. This is a beautiful specimen.
$2950, shipped domestically.
