Hello all,
I’ve fallen for a Giardinelli that has been my go-to for my LS needs for 6-8 months. I do t think I’ve swapped it out once in that time. So I am ready to thin collection a little more.
To my eyes and touch, these are all in excellent condition in terms of round and without nicks or dings.
SOLD: Gold “Original” 2CL - $50 shipped US. I’ve had this since they first came out in the 90s. The gold is faded, but silver underneath is still in great shape. Tons of insertion wear - this was my daily driver from high school into college.
SOLD:Gold 4CL - $55 shipped US
Silver 5CL - $47 shipped US
I can send photos if there is interest. I know these are more of a cult favorite and not in as many folks rotations. I love them, but also have a few other expenses I would like to raise funds for.
Payment by PayPal Friends and Family preferred.
Cheers

The Lindberg mouthpieces are a little difficult to measure due to the rounded rim profile. I have a 5CL and a 4CL (2CL is much too big for me), and find no reason to disagree with the published specs - all about the same Cup Inner Diameter. But quite different cup profiles, throats, & backbores. Not easily compared to what you are probably used to.
Model ... Cup I.D. ..... Throat
5CL ..... 25.83 mm .... 6.76 mm
4CL ..... 25.60 mm .... 7.04 mm
2CL ..... 25.55 mm .... very large

FWIW, I just had an entire set, large and small, scanned. The throat on both the 4CL and 2CL are identical -- .307"
The throat spec you gave for the 4CL is closer to what the 5CL is, .277"
The 2CL throat is located a bit further into the shank and has a larger entrance so it looks bigger than the 4CL, but it is actually the same. It also has a longer cylindrical section at that diameter.
Here are the rims of the 2CL, 5CL, and XT106N compared:
<ATTACHMENT filename="DSC_0894.JPG" index="0">[attachment=0]DSC_0894.JPG</ATTACHMENT>
Inner diameter sizes shown on the right, with the XT106N shown to be 1.0602"
2CL cup diameter - 1.0146
5CL cup diameter - 1.0239
The two rims feel almost exactly the same on your face, though, because the 2CL has a steeper entrance into the cup (alpha angle) and a deeper cup. The lip engagement is nearly the same. You can rest assured that whoever designed these (Bela Tarrodi, I think) stressed and stressed over these things, and details like that -- each rim feels exactly the same no matter what the cup does, and the backbores are designed just the right way. The 5CL and 4CL have octaves that are "stretched" about the same as a piano which means the high stuff goes just a bit bright (just like a violin soloist or singer might do) while the 2CL (meant for "section" playing...) has the longer cylindrical section and the octaves are all lined up.

Thanks Harrison!
Whoa! I guess I should remeasure my 5CL and 4CL.
I thought their throats were pretty close to the Conn specs:
5CL ..... 6.76 mm = 0.266"
4CL ..... 7.04 mm = 0.277"
Your measurements show:
5CL ..... 6.73 mm = 0.265" (Close to spec)
4CL ..... 7.80 mm = 0.307" (Much larger than spec)
2CL ..... 7.80 mm = 0.307" (Very large, as I suspected)
I've never played a 2CL, thinking its throat would be too large for me. :idk:
I knew from Christian Lindberg's commentary that all the cups were about the same entrance diameter. Makes some sense to me. (But it's hard to justify 4 decimal places on the Cup Diameters when you're really measuring at an arbitrary location on a curved surface.)
Perhaps when my dental condition is resolved and I can play again, I'll give the Lindberg mouthpieces another whirl!

Yeah the 4 digits are just what the machine they use spits out. They also choose to measure cup diameter at a different depth than DE mouthpieces measure at. I lined up the "ruler" at the exact point where the XT106 measures 1.06", and the numbers all compare at that point. You can guess that the "4CLR" was just a 4CL with a XT106N rim on it.
Not trying to hijack this sale thread -- hopefully this added some interesting info about mouthpiece designs that are really ahead of their time (still) and great, in my opinion. I personally can't play on that narrow of a cup, but love the rim contour and the way the pieces feel, resistance wise. They are also the loudest large bore mouthpieces around. The cup/throat/backbore combo is incredible, and you just need to shape what you're putting in with your tongue and soft palette the right way to get the most out of it. They demand a certain approach, and reward you for it.

Thanks for resurrecting this thread and everyone providing great info - I have more hours on CL MPs than anything else in my playing career and learned a ton reading these posts. I haven’t really been on here for months and was not expecting to have so many emails and notifications lol. The 4CL (which multiple people are suddenly interested in) is now out of here.
Happy to still sell the 5CL - just a heads up I’ll be out of town until late next week.
Cheers
