Hi everyone! I just got my Conn 88H back from the shop after having some modifications done and thought I’d share it here. The horn is a Frankenbone with an Elkhart slide and a 90s bell section. The rotor was busted on it so I just had it replaced with an instrument innovations rotor. In addition I also had it converted to an open wrap and a screw bell. Before that I had it converted to removable lead pipes and had a Saturn water key put on. All this work was done by Dustin Webb in Louisville, KY and looks and feels great! I just wanted to share it since I’m so excited with the results.

The bracing on that is interesting. I would call it “modified X bracing.” Enjoy!

Just curious why you wanted the saturn water key. A horn i just sold had one and i absolutely hated it.

I love my Saturn water key. I’ve had this one for about 5 years now and get them out on every trombone I’ve owned since. It took a little adjusting to it but once I did I don’t think I can go back.

I was never able to get much actual liquid out, i would be trying for a couple seconds and then go back to play and would still have some left in there. Would adjusting it help that?

Might not have been installed right. I think you need the spring to be tuned in it or else nothing will come out. I have them installed on everything myself and have never had an issue.

With the amados, incidentally, you have to oil them. I’ve had those in the past with issues but as soon as I started oiling them didn’t have a problem.

That 88 looks slick as hell btw

Looks great, and I’ll bet it plays like a dream - and a unique take on the edge bracing concept
