Hi all,

have any of you tried the Kanstul alto trombone?

Would be very interested in your experiences.

I have seen this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieargm9MpKc which is generally positive.

But never heard any other opinions. Looks interesting, there is one available in Germany.

I am aware that it's relatively large bore.

Thanks!

The seller is a trombonist himself, my teacher recommended it (playing multiple Kanstul instruments himself) and the price was just too good. So I got it a few days ago.

I couldn't play it much yet.

First impressions:

- Nice looking instrument, technically well made including a good slide

- Proportions (to my eyes) are a little bit more like a "shrinked tenor" than the slightly different proportions of most altos

- Response and tuning are good in all registers

- Sound is warm and pleasant, clearly an alto sound/not too big

- Leadpipe is the Kanstul JW (Whigham?), until now this seems to be a good choice

- One minor technical flaw: I took off the slide look because it had almost no functioning "open" position without getting in the way. Would probably be a very minor soldering work

Overall this seems to be a very good purchase. Potentially not on the same level as an Adams/Shires whatever, but for my purposes seemingly a very good compromise.
