Hey y’all,

Testing waters on a very nice Yamaha YSL-648 that my ex father-in-law bought in the 70’s. He used it through college and then in sat in a case for many years, only brought out a couple times by his son.

It has no dents in it at all… I just had the slide tweaked by Freddie at Dillon. Barely any lacquer wear on the outer slide, and the rest of the horn is immaculate. Action is 10/10 when lubed. No inner wear.

Horn sounds wonderful but does not agree with my inner sound concept.

Thinking $1,200 is reasonable? Let me know if I’m being ridiculous.

I would entertain trades for another .547 horn with a valve, even with some cash on either end.

I can post/send pics tomorrow when I’m home.

Email me.

The Yamaha 648 tends to sell pretty cheaply. Especially the first variant with the "tradition" wrap. I think it is viewed as a dated horn or oddball. The second variant had the "Yamaha wrap" (what Yamaha calls a "semi-open" wrap) and would probably bring more. The older one does play a bit differently than most large-bore Yamahas.

Yeah I haven’t been able to find much about them online. It does have the traditional closed wrap.

Maybe $1200 obo is more reasonable with the original case and mouthpiece, which has no dings or damage on it.

If you're not looking to extract maximum dollar, but you're moving soon, you might consider the consignment route as well: Dillon's or Brass Exchange would probably do a good job selling that for you, and you'd get 70-80% of sale price.
