Hello I have a shires T115Y S8, does anyone know what the S8 part refers to in this instance? Thank you

Small bore, 8 inch bell.

Here's the code book

It isn't a small bore bell though, its marked TII, and I'm pretty sure that is f-attachment tubing in the photo based on where Shires puts the labels on their bells. I'm not sure what S8 refers to exactly though, it could mean its an 8 inch bell, or it might be one the markings for a bell treatment that Shires does, you might be able to find an answer in the old Shires thread that was on TTF.

It is an 8 1/2 inch bell. I measured it, and I can confirm it is on my large bore axial trombone. I still don’t know what it means though

Look farther down that link, though not quite all the information is there. It means the bead wire is steel (rather than brass) and it's the standard size.

I admit, it's only a lot of reading if you do it. I stand corrected.
