There is a new topic request from a "Shirley Allen" looking for a music label name (?). New member. Whois gives a location in Philadelphia, PA (USA). I wanted to get some confirmation before I approve the message. Could be a spammer.

On the surface it looks innocent, but there's no reason someone would post that here. I would assume a scammer.

Look out for:

<LINK_TEXT text="https://trombonechat.com/memberlist.php ... le&u=15285">https://trombonechat.com/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=15285</LINK_TEXT>

He posted something that looks fairly suspicious. It might b a little late but we might want to consider upping the number of posts that someone has to make and ensure that the first say, five or 10 posts actually be substantial than essentially "post anything". It's obvious that this site and others are being obviously used for scamming

There is a second topic from him just as suspicious. I'm not approving it. Leaving it in place for everybody to see.

OK. I'm taking down the second topic. Don't go looking for it.

Edit: Looks like somebody beat me to the punch.

OK. Belden put up another "non" post in the Scammer on the Forum topic. I haven't approved it.

Do you have a way to track his IP addresses for all of his communications to TC?

I made the changes w/o notifying of the change. I did edit my comment in the "Why can't I see my posts" sticky to reflect the "three post" rule now. I also restricted the classifieds to registered members only. Unfortunately, I can't kick the two post people into newly registered easily but we'll see if that limits the number of classifieds issues. I might be able to come up with something for those. But one way or another, the 0-1 people are no longer an issue because they're perpetually "newly registered".

We just have to (still) watch what these "extra" posts are. There's still a way to meet our criteria with a bunch of "I agree" posts in various topics, or off-topic posts (seems to be a common 'bot technique). But that's what we are here for.

I suggest not approving them. I updated the "Why can't I see my posts!?" with a message that basically says you have to have a few meaningful posts but we don't have any specific criteria.
