Junque Trombones

Just in case it isn't completely clear, these are some junky horns. I've been getting a lot of questions if these are going to have work done on them before shipping. And the answer is no, these are definitely project horns or horns for spare parts, not something that is going to be gig ready. That said, I think they were originally priced just a BIT high for what they were, so I've lowered the prices (it's hard to know exactly how to price a non-working horn).
Junkers, clunkers, and misfit trombones. Where did they come from? Nobody knows.
These are some junk trombones and parts I found in my attic. I honestly have no clue where they came from. Picked up at yard sales over the years with grand plans for restoration? Late night eBay bidding that I was too tired to remember? Or if you play trombone for 30+ years, do they just slowly materialize? Who's to say, but what I will say is that I think these could have some potential, if you have the time and funds for the challenge.
King 4B - I'm going to start off with this one, because I really need someone to buy it before I decide I want to have it restored myself. For something that's languished in my attic for who knows how long, it's in surprisingly decent mechanical shape. Rotor works great, tuning slides are good. Hand-slide is not good, but not awful; I suspect a cleaning would do it wonders.
That said, as you can see it looks like ten miles of bad road and has some VERY gnarly damage to the bottom rotor knuckle. Someone tried to repair it...poorly, but you can see it is quite cracked. I suspect it got misaligned during the repair, the bell sits too closely to the slide. No case, $275 plus shipping.

Benge 165F - Similar to the King in the cosmetics department, but no funky rotor knuckle damage. However, slide will not come in any close than 2nd position. The culprit can be seen towards the bottom of the crook; it looks like something heavy with an edge was dropped on the outer slide, two dents that line up perfectly are near the bottom. No case, $225 plus shipping

Elkhart Conn 71H Bell Section - Just like it sounds. Pretty beat up and dented, lots of lacquer loss. Decent action on the tuning slide. Rotor needs to be repaired. When I paired it with my 73H slide, it got a GREAT sound though. $125 plus shipping

Conn Director Slide - Just the slide, nothing else. Borderline playable as is, but has some red rot on the bottom tube. $30 plus shipping

JinBao 42BO Stencil - Clearly patterned after a Bach 42BO, with the shape of its f-attachment and wide-slide. Rotor works great, tuning slides move. Hand slide moves better than you would expect, despite some significant wear on the bottom inner (there is a small patch of wear also on the upper inner stocking). With a cleaning and some work, slide could definitely be playable, it's borderline on the lower edge of playable as-is. So that's all the bad/ugly stuff. All that being said, this horn sounds and plays way better than it has a right to, like shockingly so. If I blind-tested a group of Bach 42BOs, as far as sound and response are concerned I suspect this would fall in the middle of the pack. I don't know who this horn is for. A backup to a backup? A student needing a large bore on a VERY tight budget? Not sure, but I don't think it's useless. Comes with a very ratty (but lightweight) JinBao case, $200 plus shipping.

Any idea if the Conn Director slide is 0.483 (14H or 18H with copper bell), or a post Elkhart brass bell 18H 0.500" bore?

I suspect it's probably an Elkhart era but can't be sure. It's there anyway to figure out without owning a pair of calipers?

A 1/2" bolt at the hardware store? Should be just under 1/2" inch, and drop into the 0.500" tenon, I'd think. And not into the earlier one. I've not tried this, I have calipers.

I don't have a bolt handy, but I did check out the serial number. It's early 60s vintage. That jives, since I vaguely remember owning one of those old Coprion Directors a LONG time ago and I keep thinking it may have come from that (though why I only have the slide and but the full horn, I don't know)

So, whatโs wrong with the rotor? Email sent.
I wonder what this would sound like with a .547โ slide (I know, I know, itโs heresy  )

Would you be interested in selling just the 4B slide?

Sorry, just saw the comment about the 4B slide. Yes, I could do that if you were interested. Please feel free to send me an email, I only check this every few days or so.
