King 3B cork barrel question.

A friend has just won a King 3B in an auction here in the UK. The serial number is 738*** so I have assumed a date of around 1978. I had a blow on it last evening and although I am not a King fan, I was impressed with how easy blowing it is and how it was suited to the trombone 1 part I was playing in the big band rehearsal.

However there are some small issues with the main slide; it drags a little between 1st and 3rd position-check it after a good clean, and there is a brown sticky deposit on the top of the outer slide when you moved from slide closed. This deposit also runs down the inner slide for a short distance.

Any suggestions about this last part? :idk:

What sort of slide bumpers might be in there, rubber, leather, sponge, chocolate sauce?

Thanks in anticipation.

Cheers

Could be anything stuck up in the cork barrels!

But definitely needs to be cleared, cleaned & replaced.

Yup. Bring it to a competent tech to have it thoroughly cleaned, aligned, and have the felts replaced and you'll be good to go for a bit.
