***PRICE DROP***

1947 NY Bach 8ii Trombone

Manufactured Oct. 24th, 1947 Bronx Factory (zip code ended in 67=the stamp on bell “NEW YORK 67”) I have a copy of the shop card.

.490 bore, yellow brass, excellent shape, these are difficult to track down, especially in this condition. I purchased this from another member here, put some work into it (dents, re-align bell stem, flare & gooseneck, strip lacquer on bell section, attn to handslide), and played it on Chicago on Broadway for about 5 months. All work done at J. Landress Brass NYC. Once I got under the spotty lacquer, which had a dark patina, I discovered that this bell is actually a 2-piece Bach bell, something done during the mid 1940’s because of WW2 and the scarcity of large sheet brass. <EMOJI seq="1f631" tseq="1f631">😱</EMOJI> It has two seams, a vertical and horizontal. NY Bachs from this period are also lighter than those made before and even the short time after. For these reasons, these horns are really special: the 2-piece bell can be pushed a little harder than standard Bachs+offers more feedback to the player, but still retains that classic Bach sound & response. It just isn’t my personal cup of tea, I prefer really heavy horns and one-piece bells.

Ok, here’s the scoop: slide inners are immaculate, action is 9/10. Slide crook has some small dings & and what looks like an odd arrowhead-shaped patch next to the dentplate, (I tried to capture in photos). Lacquer wear typical of age (no lacquer on bell section), some very slight rippling on side of bell flare from a repair (hard to see). Looks like the slide tenon repeatedly bumped up against the bell in the case once upon a time. Tuning slide is clean. Y’all know the deal, anything that comes into my collection leaves better than when it came in. What can I say, it’s an obsession.

$2000 shipped to CONUS (no international buyers, sorry <EMOJI seq="1f622" tseq="1f622">😢</EMOJI>) Not interested in trades (unless you have a sterling silver Al Almont mouthpiece, *cough* shoutout to Dave Ashley).

Generic case now included.

Price drop to $2000. Also, see Trevor’s comment above. Since he has experienced the horn, I’ve had it completely de-stressed at J. Landress Brass in NYC. Bell is really ringing now! If you’re curious about a small bore Bach that has a slightly less “Bach-ish” feel in terms of resistance, but has the full payoff re: sound & response, this is it.

I've seen this a few times. The folks who design trombone cases that allow this to happen should be sentenced to purgatory! If you have such a case, take appropriate protective measures until you can replace the case!
