Finally cutting down on my 3B/F collection! I actually bought this thinking it was a King 1485 (dream horn of mine). Oh well, I'll get one someday.
In the meantime, this is a '67 3B/F. Bell section is silver plated, slide is not. I think they are matching parts, as the slide is from the same era as the bell section- this means it has the earlier single-piece leadpipe.
I just had the slide worked on by John Sandhagen and I would call it an 8/10.
Linkage and rotor are quick and quiet and play great. I think the low range on this one is better than the horn I currently use for work. As with all of these Kings, I find it best to hold with a Neotech grip (not included... I only have one!). It has the early style slim paddle for the thumb.
Bell section is generally in great shape- it came to me quite tarnished but polished up perfectly well. No missing silver plate, just a couple of black spots I couldn't quite remove. No real dings to speak of.
Horn plays great, no quirks, not mouthpiece picky. It does have a very different sound than my '70s beater... a bit more clear, more brilliance though not bright. The one I use currently is quite warm sounding and doesn't really work in a big band section, whereas this one would be right at home.
$1200 plus shipping without case, $1400 with Cronkhite gig bag.
