The Real Deal: 1958 vintage King 2B
Manufactured around October, 1958, just in time to get to the store for Christmas 1958!
This horn is time capsule. It's the quintessential jazz bone made at the height of the King factory's long history of making outstanding horns.
SN: 362857
Lacquer mostly intact, showing ware consistent with this vintage of instrument. One ding in the main tuning slide, as pictured. Some acid bleed around bell ring (which is common even on new horns).
This trombone is as clean as a whistle (see pic of lead pipe). No red rot anywhere. It's ready to be played! Dual bore design (per thread).
Sale includes a brand new lightweight Pro-Tec formed case (not a gig bag).
Mouthpiece not included.
$1150US. Buyer pays shipping.

Note: this 2B is not the dual bore version.[/quote]
I have an H.N. White King 2B Liberty, manufactured in 1958 (S/N 3569xx) and purchased that summer (when the list price was $250!). Supplied with a King M21 mouthpiece and an excellent case. It remains a wonderful trombone. Great jazz lead.
However it is most assuredly a dual bore, as were all King 2Bs made during that era. Unless you have a real oddball/special order, so is yours. The dual bore was not a "version" - it was the 2B's DNA. Part of the design, and part of what made a 2B a 2B!
The 2B slide is a bit deceptive. The bore size of the upper inner slide is 0.481"; the lower inner bore is 0.491". The inner slide extrusions are cleverly different - the upper inner slide has a more pronounced "shelf" at the stocking transition than the lower, so the stockings end up being the same outer diameter. Thus, you can reverse the outer slide (upper to lower) and it will still fit "normally" - making you think it's not a dual bore. But the inner slides are indeed different diameters. The outer slide, however, is constant bore (same upper and lower). :shuffle:

Thanks for the clarification. I was wrong. I assumed, because I could reverse the slide (top to bottom/bottom to top) it wasn’t dual bore. In fact it is dual bore. That’s fab!
I’ve update the original post. Thanks all!
