I have a mint condition Voight Alto in a like-new Marco Magi lightweight case w/strap that I want to sell. Red brass bell (w/kranz) and tuning slide. Nickel slide that is as close to perfect as you can get (9.5 out of 10?). Small bore alto (somewhere around .455 bore?) and small bell, but feels quite solid and centred. Has springs in 1st position, less distance out and less noisy than the old Conn slide springs.

Here is the issue (for some people) - the instrument is built towards the high side tuning-wise. I didn't even notice when I bought it, because the horn is very well in tune with itself, and I am a player who needs to play most of my instruments with the tuning slide almost all the way in, or in a couple of instances, I have short tuning slides. For me, this horn plays right at A=440 with the tuning slide about 2 cm (3/4 inch) out. For some players who need that kind of space on their other instruments, I would guess that this alto would have the tuning slide out very close to maximum distance or even in some cases, they would not be able to reach 440. The bell is closer to the player on the Voight altos as well - 3rd position is past the bell - FYI.

I give this information, because I don't want anyone to purchase a horn that won't work for them, but I am certain that there is someone out there who either usually struggles to get stock instruments up to pitch (like me) or who perhaps plays in an orchestra (in Europe?) that tunes noticeably higher. I'm pretty sure that Voight made this horn for that situation - I'm guessing that they make a shorter and longer slide for different tuning. I know that Shires does that - 2 colleagues of mine traded slides so that one could get the horn up to 440, and the other one didn't need to have his tuning slide out an inch or more.

I can provide pictures for anyone interested, and I would like to get $2000 US plus shipping for it. If you check Hornguys and Dillons, you'll see that this is significantly less than the new price (60% of retail?). I bought it with the idea of having a smaller alto for especially light playing, but I find that larger altos are a better fit for me. Just hoping to get back the majority of my investment, and this is a good horn that deserves to be played. PM or email. Thanks!
