Here's a horn I'm selling for a friend. He bought this new in 2007 and it got him through two top-tier music schools and beyond- he just plays something else now!
This is basically a Kanstul 42T. There, I said it! There are a couple changes- some braces are brass instead of nickel, the tuning slide has a ever-so-slightly larger outer diameter than a Bach (so they won't switch around), slide has a different connector than Bach, but all the measurements are the same. Same staggered nickel oversleeves, yellow tubes, yellow crook. Same one piece, yellow bell.
Therefore, it plays and sounds much like a very solid 42T. Nice broad sound, good color when played loud, great low range, less quirky high range than most Bachs. I and a friend played this in trios the other day and it felt great in the middle of the section.
Slide is a good 9/10. Includes a Kanstul BB pipe (the Peebles pipe, perhaps?) that won't come out... but it plays great! Valve is a black anodized aluminum core and has no wear- I cleaned and lubed it myself. No end play, seals well, and I think it's got some serious miles left on it.
This was obviously used and used hard. Plenty of scratches and dings, missing slide lock, lacquer loss... but it's a player, not a looker. Would probably look dope with the lacquer removed from the bell!
Great horn for a college student looking for an upgrade, or for a doubler looking for a solid large tenor.
$1600 plus shipping.
