I'm looking for some info on an Elkhart Band Instrument Company trombone I've acquired.
The bell is engraved with the word "Elkhart" and a picture of an elk inside a heart with the words "Band Inst.co"
Elkhart Indiana. The only potential serial number I can find is 16922 could this be something from Buescher horns from the early 20's? Any help would be appreciated.

Established in 1924
Merged with Buescher in 1928
They continued using the name Elkhart on some models.

Elkhart serial numbers don’t track Buescher serial numbers, so you can’t rely on that. You can find “Elkhart” and “Elkhart Built by Buescher” horns that were made all the way into the very late ‘50s until Buescher was bought by Selmer. After that the Elkhart line was dropped and Buescher started to be converted into a mostly student horn outfit in the early ‘60s.
