Olds Custom P-15 $700
Specs:
.500” Bore nickel slide
Nickel gooseneck
Nickel reverse tuning slide
8” Bell The alloy seems to be closer to yellow brass than rose, but it looks like slightly higher copper content than yellow brass.
Made in Fullerton, the 8355xx serial number dates it to 1973. The slide action is 6/10 there is plating wear on the inner slide tubes, still very much playable. Lacquer is about 98% intact. This was Olds most expensive small bore at the time, priced above a Recording model.
LA Olds Recording R-15 $600
Specs:
.495 - .500 Bore slide. Upper slide tube is rose, nickel crook, lower slide tube is yellow brass (round inner)
8” Bell
Comes with the counterweight and a good condition, original case.
Made in LA, the 365xx serial number dates it to 1949. The slide action is 7.5/10 there is plating wear on the inner slide tubes, still very playable and fast. Lacquer is about 98% intact. This is the best playing recording model I’ve tried, and I’ve tried many. It is extremely easy to play.
LA Olds Super S-15 $450
The Specs:
.485 - .500” Bore Nickel slide, unlacquered satin finish
7 1/2” Bell with original lacquer on the bell flare. I think the patina underneath the lacquer is beautiful. The nickel portions of the bell are unlacquered satin finish.
Made in LA, the 3313xx serial number dates it to 1959. Slide action is 10/10, really excellent, super lightweight and no plating wear on inner slide tubes. For Lead in a Big Band it’s hard to think of a better horn. It can project and is very easy to play in the upper register. Comes with original case.
Olds Super TIS Bass S-20 - $500
Specs:
.554 - .565” bore, Wide all yellow brass, TIS
9” yellow brass bell. The entire bell section is made of yellow brass (except the brace).
Made in 1969 in Fullerton SN#6361xx. Comes with original Case. Slide action is great (albeit minor plating wear). One previous owner. Plays like a big tenor, I’ve used this on Brahms and chamber music.
Reynolds Contempora TO-11 $300
Specs:
.515″ bore nickel slide. Reynolds shank leadpipe, I add a bit of teflon tape to the mouthpiece. Missing slide lock ring and crook guard.
8 1/2” Bronze bell with tone ring. Nickel silver gooseneck and reverse tuning slide.
Admittedly not an ‘olds’… This Contempora was made in Abilene in 1968, SN: 2364xx.

I learned to play F-valve on a horn just like the Super TIS bass, and a copy of the Roberts & Tanner “Let’s Play Bass Trombone.” Tempting…
