Here is a great-playing Conn 24H made at the Elkhart factory in 1961. This is the *second* version of the 24H that Conn made. It resembles a 6H - just smaller. Some small dings here and there; no sign of any previous damage or repairs. The one noteworthy thing is the slide crook - it is pushed in a bit. One inner stocking has some wear. But the horn is a great player. Slide moves well and it sounds great. Singing high end. Comes in original case that shows lots of wear but is fully functional and has no odors. Mouthpiece in photos is *not* included. $600 gets it to your door using UPS Ground fully insured. If you are outside the US, contact me for shipping quote. Now $400 shipped!

I’ve wanted to try a 24h from that era and compare to my ‘37 24h. So much temptation!

I have a pristine ‘41 model 24h and have wondered the same thing. The Conn advertising for the old ones claimed the horn was the “favorite of dance men,” or something like that. It was then their largest selling model. I wonder if Conn just started making them again with the same specs.

I had one of the earlier versions like the other posters, and it was fantastic. Screaming high range, and it plays bigger than you think it will for a sub-500 bore. There is another Elkhart version for sale at Brass Exchange (for much more money). I think these are the same as the earlier 24h but with modern fittings, and this looks like a lightweight slide (no oversleeves). I thought the 24h played a lot like a Bach 6 NY that I got to play for a while. Great dixieland horn, or big band lead, or anything where you have to compete/blend with trumpets. And of course Greenbean is a great guy to buy stuff from.

The 24h I've had have played well above their size, much like a Bach NY 6. Great lead horns and freaky high range. The only thing I didn't like was that I had to exhale at the end of phrases. It took a while to get used to how little air it used. At $400, someone will get a real player.

Sounds like an oboe - all pressure, high resistance, little flow. When oboists finish a phrase, they exhale a huge gasp! :o

No double reed experience here so I can't comment on the oboe comment. Once it is here I'll share a comparison between the '37 24H I have and this one.

Oboe is an apt comparison. The 24H i had of similar vintage played beautifully if i held back on my air. Years of playing 6Hs and bigger have conditioned me to let loose with large amounts of air.

I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did! That was a great price.
