The Munich Symphony Orchestra has appointed Joseph Bastian as its music director from next summer.

The Munich Symphony Orchestra is not to be confused with the Munich Philharmonic which[url=https://www.wqxr.org/story/trombonist-got-job-munich-philharmonic-then-she-fought-them-court-13-years/][color=#800040] spent 13 years trying to fire a trombonist.

If I remember correctly, I borrowed his contra 15 years ago, but never met him in person. I think some friends played in an amateur orchestra that he conducted.

There seems to be quite a few trombonists that become successful conductors at some point. Hermann Baeumer (former Berlin Philharmonic) comes to mind. And of course Christian Lindbergh.
