Bought my first valved instrument during the pandemic while all of the clubs were closed down, a King Flugabone. Beyond valve lubrication and slide grease what maintenance should I be doing. Do I need a trumpet swab. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks!

If you play it a lot, snake it out and bathe in soapy water. Oil spit valve pivots, replace spit valve corks every 10 years. Valve springs and felts may need checking/replacement from time to time. Especially if you bought a new one, you might need to swab out the valve casings to get gunk that accumulates during break in. Valve cores should be wiped down and oiled frequently. Brush out the mouthpiece from time to time...

The felts/spacers can affect noise levels and valve alignments. Might want to have someone familiar with that to have a look depending on how frequently you play it.

Very sound advice. That's exactly what I do with my Olds Flugabone from 1972
