Friend of mine got a silver 4B called Silver Sonorous. Is this a sterling silver bell or could it be just silver plated? Can't seem to find any info whether 4B Sonorous in silver are always sterling silver bells or just silver plated.

If it has the pound symbol, it'll be sterling.

What's the pound symbol? The one where it says 4B? Like on the picture below?

It'll be up near the tuning slide end. 99% sure it's a silver sonic. You should be able to just tell by how heavy it feels.

I had a silver plated 4B. It had all tubing silver plated. A Silvertone 2B my band owned had brass colored slide crook, tuning slide crook, and gooseneck.

The dead giveaway for a sterling bell is that pound symbol in Harrison's post above. And the symbol is located high on the bell stem near the tuning slide ferrule.

Sonorous equals 4B, silver sonorous equals solid silver bell. I owner one, great horn!

The ones marked "Silver Sonorous" on the bell should all be Silversonic Sterling bells. On those the Sterling mark is above the "Crown".

Like on this one: <LINK_TEXT text="https://reverb.com/item/30265739-king-m ... ll-sn-7058">https://reverb.com/item/30265739-king-model-4b-silver-sonorous-trombone-with-sterling-silver-bell-sn-7058</LINK_TEXT>

I'm not sure it's a "pound" symbol.

Why would they stamp them with a pound sign? They sold for way more than that!

The Silver Sonorous has a sterling silver bell just like the Silver Sonic. ...."Can't seem to find any info whether 4B Sonorous in silver are always sterling silver bells or just silver plated."...There are tons of information about this fact online...all you need is Google and "King Silver Sonorous".

Well, guess what I did for an hour yesterday and couldn't find a valid answer for. Otherwise I wouldn't have asked...

I don't trust selling pages especially not eBay or Reverb and it doesn't answer the question if Silver Sonorous ALWAYS means Sterling silver bell and how you can tell whether it's silver plated or sterling silver

As a former president would say, if you repeat a lie often enough it becomes the truth. So I'm satisfied that they are all Sterling Silver. Plus I am married to a 70's King 4B f Sonorous, and she is always right.
