Here's my 50K3LG and new tenor project complete- Bach Artisan compatible K valve section, gold brass tuning slide, gold brass Friedman 42 bell flare.

Wish I could have had a single K like the second valve on your double, or a double with both valves set up like the second. It would have completely eliminated the ergonomic problem I had with the Bach K valve.

They sound great. I see them as the flip side of the same coin as the Trubore- Big, heavy valves that make for narrower slots. Trubores play great and sound ok, K valves play ok and sound great.

Because the Thayer showed up at just the wrong time, which has better action and plays more open. Those first gen stainless Thayers also sound great. They also look less... dumb :P

If I remember correctly, the Thayer came first. Bach brought out the K as a home grown alternative. If you look at the single valve horn you will notice that the valve sticks out pretty far towards the player's neck. This made it quite uncomfortable to play for me and probably a lot of others. Hence the valve didn't sell.

These two look really nice!

In theory I can clearly see the advantages with the "drum" construction of the valve, but they look large and heavy.

Have you done any weight comparison?

They're big boys, around the same mass as a trubore just in different dimensions.

On bass, definitely if I needed an orchestral bass trombone sound (I don't at this moment). Axial valves don't fit me there. But rotors are still a better fit for me, even if they're more resistant.

Can't say the same on tenor though... While I've never played a 36K or 42K, I feel I can be flexible on what valve I can use for large bore.

I just sold a nice 36K. I would gladly play on it except... I don't really like 36's. The K valve was a big improvement over the usual Bach rotor.
