Lead pipe questions! Does anyone know about this??

Hi guys.

.

I’m after lead pipe help.

So I have Shires. Edwards and Conns with SL slides

I’m back on my Greenhoe Conn 88HT, and SL4747 slide which I’ve always used an R leadpipe in but with a standard fit Elliot mouthpiece. Even though I have a DE Conn shank, I’ve just always preferred the R leadpipe with the standard shank. Same when I actually play my Elkhart.

But. . My real question is,

What size is the Alessi Silver leadpipe from Edwards. In comparison to their 1,2,3 sizes.

And. . . Is the Conn R leadpipe larger than the S leadpipe, they definitely look and feel so.

Also. . Where do the S and R leadpipes fit in relation to the Edwards 1,2,3 and the Shires 1, 2, 2.5 and 3?

Sorry! I know that’s massively long winded! Any help / advice gratefully received!

I got you on this one, not the others. The Alessi pipe is a standard length 2SS- the "normal" 2SS is longer than a regular 2.

I don't think that's right. The Alessi leadpipe is a shorter 2SS, as I understand it.

Yup, that's what I said, just in a very obtuse way.

Sorry, I meant shorter than a regular length lead pipe. I'd check but I only have the Alessi now; I sold my other lead pipes.

Shorter than the 2? Interesting. I don't think I've had the Alessi and a normal one at the same time to check.

I had one that was the same length. Perhaps it was not an Alessi.

The original Alessi t2 (they also made a t1), the pipe from the 396a, and the pipe from the 396AR are all different. This is what Edwards told me.

I’ve played an Alessi t2 for ages. Its a bit longer than the brass pipes, but not as long as the other ss pipes. I also have an AR pipe. It’s very short. I have not seen the one from the 396a.

Hope that helps!

I have a slide section from the AR, which is the lead pipe I've been referring to. It seems I've been confusing the different options.

To add some confusion, I believe there were some other slight changes to the original T2 Alessi pipe compared to a standard T2SS, not just the length. Some changes in the process that could some proportions.

Cheers,

From the examples I have I think the R and M Conn leadpipes are longer than the S.

But I would not trust Conn's consistency. The first M I got was not reamed correctly to fit a large shank without wobbling. Mouthpiece didn't go in far enough to seat. The first S came from the factory with dints. Hickey's fabulous customer service resolved both issues.

The newer Alessi pipe is definitely shorter than the T2S. I have both.
