I had not played any RVW and now, in the space of two weeks, I’ll have done The Sea and London.
The Sea is a little overcooked but The London is a beaut. It makes me long to be in Bloomsbury Square on a November day and as for the ending (Epilogue), well, London disappearing beneath the waves. Very Brexity. Gorgeous stuff .

Vaughn Williams did say that it was a symphony by a Londoner, rather than a depiction of London. As someone who grew up in London I think that symphony is very much about the place, at least the place as it was..... that place is long since gone.

I enjoyed playing the London Symphony. First time I was on bass, and 2nd time I was on 1st. Nice parts for all trombones.
