Killer work from Scott Sweeney!

I've had Scott Sweeney at Sweeney Brass in Raleigh NC do several custom repairs and modifications for me over the last couple of years, and he's always exceeded my expectations.
I sent a NY Bach 16 to Scott a few months ago that I'd picked up cheap at an auction. It had a badly damaged bell flare that I didn't think was salvageable. I asked him to cut the flare off and replace it with a flare from another horn. Instead, he was able to do a PERFECT looking repair on the flare and added the cut bell conversion. This thing plays AMAZINGLY well. Better than any other 16 I've played.
I just wanted to give major kudos to Scott and highly recommend that others use him!

That looks amazing ! How do you like the cut Bell?
What did it do to the sound and feel of the horn?
I played a Marshall Gilkes Shires a couple months back and was surprised how "Sound Forward " it was.
Different kind of feedback on my end

Does the Bach 16 play a little better after sipping some Maker's Mark?

Is there a difference between cut and screw bells, or has the terminology just changed?

At least in my mind...

The sound to me is a lot more focused, and I don't know if that was due to the slight added weight of the screw ring or what.... but I really like it. And yes, the feedback is different but to me an improvement. After owning/buying/selling dozens of small bore horns I think this is my "forever horn". :)
