Does anyone have the master list of Kanstul leadpipes?

It's a shame they aren't made any more. I wonder what happened to the mandrels and such, as I was hoping eventually they would be produced again, though as I have seen they do vary a bit over time in length. This is the BB, ML, and MO from two horns produced probably 5 years apart.

Most of the Kanstul assets went to B.A.C. in Kansas City.

The different lengths of the same pipe was always very puzzling to me. It's almost like someone thought it didn't matter.

See, to me it says more that somebody thought that it mattered, because it isn’t a random amount. What it tells me is that whoever thought it mattered didn’t do anything to make sure there were manufacturing controls in place so that everybody knew they were supposed to be different.

The pipes on the left are the older pipes, so maybe the ML and ML pipes were supposed to be longer originally. I don't know what their process was for making the leadpipes, but someone may have just decided they should all be the same length. I wish I knew, though I do remember that generally their advertising made much more of a deal about the venturi size than about the length. I should get out the micrometer and see where the longer pipes stop tapering.

Kanstul's "manufacturing controls" were not always so precise. Especially in the later years.

Regarding the Kanstul mandrels.

Reach out to B.A.C. Musical Instruments of Kansas City, MO.

BAC = Best American Craftsmen. Doing amazing work.

They bought the tooling when Kanstul went out of business. Even brought back Bange Trumpets (originally designed by Zig Kanstul :) )

Just bought what appears to be one of the last remaining leadpipes off hornguys.com, the H16 for my Bach 16.

Any thoughts?

If anyone out there has original Kanstul pipes that they would be willing to lend, I would be more than happy to take measurements and make duplicate pipes available for purchase.

I would be very surprised if BAC still had that tooling and were willing to make and sell trombone leadpipes from it.
