Conn 88HNV vs Xeno 882GO

First post! I just joined a community concert band (about 80 people) after about fifteen years of not playing trombone. I will be playing 2nd trombone part. It’s time to bury my dented Holton student trombone. I’ve gone to a shop to test out a few, and I really like how the Yamaha Xeno 882GO feels. They also had a Yamaha YSL891Z that felt great as well (not sure how well it would work in this size of ensemble). Both the Bach 42 BO and Shires Bravo F did not feel natural to me (Since breaking my ribs a couple years ago, it seems I don’t have enough breath support necessary for these ones). I have not tried any Conn trombones yet, but my research seems to indicate that either the Conn 88HNV or 88HO may be a good fit for me. The music store is getting an HNV this week. Does anyone have any experience or advice? Thanks!

Just my opinion... I'd steer clear of new instruments from Conn-Selmer. I have seen some pretty major quality control and build issues from them recently.

Go try the HNV once it shows up and make a decision. They'll both be good options.

You'll save money, and often get equal or better quality, by purchasing a used professional-level trombone. Such instruments are often listed here on TromboneChat, and most of us are honest about condition. Otherwise, best if you try playing before you buy.

I’m selling because I found an instrument I like better” <EMOJI seq="1f602" tseq="1f602">😂</EMOJI><EMOJI seq="1f602" tseq="1f602">😂</EMOJI> You’re right that people are honest about physical condition on here but a lot of the ads feel like used car specials these days.

Agree with Burgerbob, try the Conn when it arrives and between that and the Yamaha you’ll have two good instruments to pick from. If you have the money and don’t want to look forever, just go with what’s in front of you and works for you at the time you’re trying things out.

It does make sense a forum dedicated to enthusiasts of any subject probably would have at least an above-average set of things to sell. I know almost everything I've bought or traded for here has been great. And I'm selling some things that I would never even think of selling if my spouse wasn't putting a cap on the number of instruments I can have in the basement :lol: The Shires 2RVET7 is probably the best playing instrument I'll ever have but I'm selling it because I found something that works better for me and especially works better for me per dollar I spent on it compared to going to Edwards to get one new.
