Why music?

An interesting notion in a YouTube rabbit hole: humans can’t help but like music, and it is an accident of evolution.

Essentially, music just “tastes good” to our brains. The linked video explains it better. But this idea does leave me saddened a little that humans have taken something that is irresistibly delightful, and developed it to the point many say they don’t like or don't understand a lot of music.

The kids on "American Bandstand" had the magic figured out 70 years ago... "It's got a good beat and you can dance to it"

The past century shows us that the more the instinctive building blocks are omitted, the less compelling the music becomes.

A Schoenberg school, which purposely rejects all those elements, leaves us with little to love.
