Disappearing serial number

My Bach 42's serial number is wearing smooth. Are there any drawbacks? Should I worry about re-engraving it somewhere else?

Somebody obviously didn't think about that when they decided to put it there.
I don't have any advice other than to keep a record of it just so you know.

Doesn't it also appear on the lower slide tube?

Just for completeness for others, on this horn, it should be on the trim ring on the top of the lower outer slide. Bach stopped doing that at some point. After 110K, as I had one there. Been asking everybody I see with one to try to pinpoint more closely when they quit it.
Cheers,
Andy

I only think about my serial number when I'm dropping the horn off at the shop. I'll have a look at the lower slide tube when I get it back. I never knew to look there. Neat.

My Bach 36 does have the serial number (122K) printed on the trim ring.

It looks like the worn area wouldn't have been protected by a Leather Specialties guard. I wonder if that means my grip is somehow "wrong".

They used to make a version that went up to the lock nut for people with a different grip. Haven’t purchased a new grip in decades… so I don’t know if they make it anymore. I had to fax in the order last time…
Cheers,
Andy
