I have been toying with this piece for a while now. It is just a great piece and I do not see any reason why it can not be performed on the bass or tenor trombone. If I decide that it can then I will devote some serious practice to it and begin marketing it just for fun. Let me know your thoughts. I realize this is just a poor phone recording but I used a Griego 1B mpc and a Getzen Eterna bass bone.

You should go for it - in my mind, almost anything that's note and rhythms is fair game.

There are bassoon concerti and cello concerti which may be more suitable for bass trombone and would extend and improve your technical playing.

Cheers

The Mozart Bassoon concerto (K.193 ?) has long been appropriated by trombone players. The trick with the clarinet concerto is the ornamentation -- lots of trills which are difficult on a trombone. Your recording is really nice.

I super appreciate the feedback!! All these comments help me gain direction and perspective. I just love playing the trombone and pushing the perimeters of what I am able to do. I am thinking the Griego 1B is just too wide a diameter - perhaps a 3G next... Any insights are greatly appreciated!!

I went though a long mouthpiece search, and ended up on a LI Brass 550E. If you like deep mouthpieces with a comfortable rim, I think you'd really dig it over the 3G. Originally it was developed for euphonium work, but you've been through enough instruments at a high enough level to know what's up. Doug's pieces are also great - I like the wide 104 rim option on the G* series cup for chamber stuff.

I thought this was really great. :-) Trying to imagine a trombone concerto being played on bass clarinet. :?

Thank you!! I really just have loved this piece my whole life and finally just decided to start chipping away at it. The 3rd movement is also a blast. I've always said that if you can dream it you can do it. Thanks again for the comment!
