For sale is an Olds Recording manufactured in Los Angeles in 1950. I'm the second owner, having purchased the horn from the original owner 2 years ago. As much as I like it, I don't play it enough to keep it out of circulation. This is a horn that wants to be played! Condition is very good- no dents, nice patina with some spotting under the lacquer. The inner slide tubes are the original fluted style with some flaking on the stockings. Even so, slide action is 8/10. Comes with a silver Olds 3 mouthpiece and the original coffin case which is OK for shipping but definitely not good enough for daily use. It will need to be replaced if you plan to play gigs with this horn.
I'm asking $575 plus shipping. Please PM me if you're interested and I'll forward photos.
Thanks!
Joel

It's a neat little horn. I had a King New Proportion, sold it and thought I'd give the Vocabell a try when one came up on ebay. It plays like a much bigger horn and it looks pretty cool, too. Have you ever played one?

No. What's worse is I missed a good one while busy with other things. Curious how all those old horns play bigger than they look.

I'm no expert, but I believe it's the design of the bell as the diameter increases from the tuning slide to the flare. My New Proportion had a 6 1/2" bell and played as big as a 2B with a 7 5/8" bell. On top of that the NP had the smallest slide diameter I've ever owned - .461/.481 dual bore.
