Hello All,

I have for sale a 80s/90s Holton TR181 for sale that I got from a good shop about a year ago.

I've used this for big band, orchestral, and pop stuff, and it's been described by fellow musicians as "big", "phat", and "earthshaking". It's performed well with a funky, quasi trad-jazz quintet as well as held down the contra parts in regional opera performances.

This was a great horn for me to get a feel for double valves with, and I had a lot of fun with it on gigs!

It's got some wear on it, but is in good playing order, and it has a nice big sound with a 10"ish bell.

Condition details:

- The brass and nickel is all in good shape, and the valves work well with no fuss. The linkages were replaced with aftermarket ends and treaded stock at some point, and everything's pretty smooth.

- It came to me with a little ding in the valve tubing and one in a knuckle as well that I never bothered to get removed

- Bell is rose brass and has been delaquered

It ships in a solid, Getzen (I think) case, and I'd probably be able to rassle up a 1 1/2G if you need a mouthpiece with it.

I'm open to offers, and I'm looking for a set of Edwards bass valves if anybody's got em. Thanks all!

I have a student that may be interested - are the valves dependent or independent? Pics?

Thanks!

Hey Jim,

Valves are independent rotors, I’ll try to take some pics and have them up tomorrow.

Thanks for the interest!

I loved that 10” Holton bell on my old TR181. My first bass trombone (c 1998).
